Objectives:
- Support collaborative research projects between UK-based researchers and researchers in the State of São Paulo, Brazil.
- Enable arts and humanities researchers to establish or enhance effective working relationships internationally.
- Provide career development opportunities for less experienced researchers through collaboration with senior researchers.
- Maximise research impact by promoting communication and dissemination beyond academia and facilitating knowledge transfer.
- Encourage interdisciplinary collaborations within arts and humanities and with other sectors or disciplines.
- Support international project co-leads, including those outside the UK and Brazil.
Target Beneficiaries:
- UK researchers actively engaged in postdoctoral research with a doctorate or equivalent experience, based at UK research organisations eligible for AHRC funding.
- Brazilian researchers based at eligible institutions in the State of São Paulo, confirmed eligible by FAPESP.
- Collaborative teams including project leads and co-leads from UK and São Paulo institutions, with possible inclusion of international co-leads.
- Less experienced researchers seeking career development through collaborative projects.
Application Process:
- Applications must be submitted simultaneously by the UK project lead via the UKRI Funding Service and the São Paulo project lead via FAPESP’s SAGe system.
- The full economic cost (FEC) of the UK-hosted project element must be between £300,000 and £1.5 million; AHRC funds 80% of FEC.
- FAPESP funds all justified costs for Brazilian researchers.
- Applications undergo eligibility checks, expert peer review by AHRC and FAPESP reviewers, applicant response stage, and panel moderation.
- Final funding decisions are jointly approved by AHRC and FAPESP.
- The maximum project duration is five years, with projects starting at least nine months after application submission.
- The funding opportunity is continuously open with no fixed deadline.
