The DRIVEN Charger Rebate Stream is a funding program by the Australian Government under the DRIVEN Program, allocating $60 million over four years (2024-25 to 2027-28) to support the purchase and installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging units at automotive dealerships and EV repairers across Australia.
Objectives:
- Support automotive businesses selling passenger and light commercial vehicles in decarbonising the sector by increasing EV sales and repairs.
- Increase the scale and visibility of EV charging infrastructure nationwide.
- Enhance staff and customer awareness and knowledge of EVs and charging technologies.
- Distribute funding widely to eligible businesses to support timely deployment of charging solutions.
- Contribute to reducing transport emissions to help achieve Australia’s net zero emissions target by 2050.
Target Beneficiaries:
- Licensed motor dealers/traders.
- Service centres associated with licensed motor dealers/traders.
- Automotive repair businesses compliant with Australian Standards 5732:2022 for EV maintenance and repair, with qualified staff for EV work.
- Applicants must have an Australian Business Number (ABN), an Australian financial institution account, and be incorporated in Australia.
Key Features:
- Funding up to $40 million specifically for EV charging units for dealerships and repairers.
- Rebates range from $2,500 to $21,000 depending on the charger type.
- Eligible chargers must be “smart” (online connected for energy management) and installed by licensed electricians.
- Portable DC EV chargers must be safely powered and assessed by licensed electricians.
- Applications open from 22 September 2025 via business.gov.au/DRIVEN-charger-rebate-stream.
- The program is demand-driven and aims to maximize distribution across eligible businesses.

- Applicants must have purchased and installed eligible EV chargers on or after 26 March 2024.
