Program Overview

This initiative aims to boost clinical trial activity in Australia by supporting international collaborative clinical trials.

Objectives:

  • Promote Australian participation in international investigator-initiated clinical trials by establishing and coordinating trial sites in Australia.
  • Generate high-quality evidence on the effectiveness of novel health treatments, drugs, or devices in usual care settings to inform decisions on their use in Australia.
  • Improve health and wellbeing of Australians by increasing access to evidence-based, effective healthcare through new clinical trials.

Target Beneficiaries:

  • Approved MRFF Eligible Organisations in Australia.
  • Researchers proposing clinical trials in Australia in collaboration with international partners.
  • Australian patients who gain access to relevant clinical trials.

Application Process:

  • Applications must be submitted electronically via NHMRC’s online system (Sapphire).
  • Proposals must involve clinical trials that have not yet commenced recruitment at Australian sites.
  • Applicants should consult the MRFF Eligible Organisation submitting the application for any specific requirements.
  • Two rounds for minimum data submission: 2 July 2025 and 10 December 2025.
  • Questions deadline: 23 July 2025 and 28 January 2026 respectively.
