Program Overview

Objectives:

  • Strengthen risk-informed engagement with China in Australia's national interest.
  • Reinforce social cohesion by engaging Chinese-Australian communities, showcasing their contributions, and strengthening their voice and agency.
  • Facilitate dialogue to increase mutual understanding in priority areas that further Australia's national interest.
  • Build Australian knowledge and capability to engage with mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, including fellowships or scholarships to improve language skills and lived experience.
  • Support key Australian industry sectors to engage markets in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
  • Promote climate change, net zero, green economy, and clean energy transition outcomes.
  • Showcase Australian excellence and enhance people-to-people links through exchanges in culture, arts, sports, education, academia, innovation, science, health, aviation, and tourism.
  • Engage diverse Chinese-Australian communities to foster leadership and strengthen their civic engagement.
  • Enhance understanding of modern multicultural Australia by international students from China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan and connect emerging leaders to Australian society.
  • Promote media and public communication activities related to these objectives.

Target Beneficiaries:

  • Australian companies, incorporated associations, partnerships, registered charities, not-for-profits, publicly funded research organizations.
  • Individuals who are Australian citizens or permanent residents.
  • Australian local, state, territory government bodies, statutory authorities, Corporate Commonwealth Entities.
  • Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Corporations.
  • Entities located in Australia or mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, and/or Taiwan.
  • Applicants must have an Australian Business Number (ABN) and an Australian financial institution account.

Application Process:

  • Applications must be submitted online via the SmartyGrants platform.
  • Applicants must complete the application form, provide requested information and supporting documents, and address eligibility and assessment criteria.
  • Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time (30 June 2025, 12:00 pm ACT time).
  • The level of detail and evidence should correspond to the size and complexity of the funding requested.

  • Total funding available: AUD 7,000,000.
  • Grant amounts range from AUD 100,000 to AUD 500,000.
  • Maximum grant period is four years.
  • Open competitive selection process.
  • Supports a wide range of activities including dialogue facilitation, knowledge building, industry engagement, cultural and educational exchanges, and community leadership.
