Truly Local Grant Program

The program aims to strengthen local communities by providing financial support to projects and programs that deliver direct, measurable benefits to these areas.

Objectives:

• To support community organizations that align with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically targeting No Poverty, Zero Hunger, and Good Health and Well-being.
• To fund one-time project-based proposals or existing programs that have a tangible impact on the local community.
• To foster community development and improve the quality of life for residents in the Niagara and Haldimand regions.

Target Beneficiaries:

• Registered non-profit and charitable organizations with valid charitable status.
• Organizations that have not received more than $5,000 in financial support from PenFinancial in the past 12 months.
• Projects that benefit the Niagara and Haldimand communities directly.
• Faith-based organizations providing broader community services may be considered.

Application Process:

• Applications are submitted through an online form detailing the project, funding needs, and alignment with the program’s goals.
• Proposals must demonstrate how funds will be used and the expected community impact.
• Projects must be completed by October 31, 2026.
• An internal PenFinancial committee reviews applications based on need, impact, and alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
• Successful applicants receive funding by the end of October, with a required impact report due by April 30 of the following year.
• Multiple proposals can be submitted by the same organization, but each requires a separate application.

Key Features:

• Funding supports one-time projects such as facility upgrades, equipment purchases, or program support.
• Grants are not for long-term operational costs, advertising, sports teams, or individual fundraising.
• The program emphasizes transparency and accountability with impact reporting.
• Funding amounts and the number of recipients vary based on submissions, financial need, and community impact.
• Past recipients include organizations addressing food security, health services, trauma support, and veteran assistance.
