Program Overview

This grant supports professional, non-profit Toronto-based visual and media arts organizations, collectives, curators, or programmers. It funds one-time or time-limited projects focused on the exhibition or distribution of contemporary visual or media arts, including residencies and workshops that contribute to the development of these arts in Toronto. The City of Toronto funds this program through its Community Partnership and Investment Program.

Key objectives:

  • Support projects that present contemporary visual/media arts in a curatorial or critical context.
  • Foster audience development and engagement within Toronto.
  • Encourage projects that contribute to the growth of the visual/media arts community in Toronto.

Target beneficiaries:

  • Incorporated non-profit organizations, unincorporated collectives operating not-for-profit, or individual curators/programmers residing in Toronto.
  • Collectives must have a majority of members residing in Toronto.
  • Professional artists and organizations based in Toronto with projects taking place in the city.

Application process:

  • Applications are submitted online via TAC Grants Online by deadlines (March 3 and August 5, 2025).
  • Projects must start after June 1 (for March deadline) or November 1 (for August deadline) and be completed within two years.
  • Applicants must provide a clear curatorial or critical framework and an audience development plan.
  • Payment of artist fees is mandatory.
  • Applicants may receive only one grant per calendar year from this program.

Key features:

  • Maximum grant amount is $15,000.
  • Eligible projects include exhibitions, screening series, lecture series, and residency/workshop series.
  • Projects must have a secured venue in Toronto or be produced in Toronto and shared online.
  • Digital platform projects are eligible due to potential public health restrictions.
  • The program does not fund operating costs, retroactive projects, individual artworks, or activities outside Toronto.
  • Additional accessibility grants up to $5,000 are available for Deaf artists and artists with disabilities.
  • Applicants can request up to $500 for application support if Deaf or disabled.
