Objectives:
- Support small Indian NGOs working with the most vulnerable communities in priority geographical areas.
- Promote community-centric development programs where disadvantaged people lead change and design solutions.
- Encourage systemic change through development funding.
- Enhance capacity of organizations and individuals facilitating community-led development.
Target Beneficiaries:
- Local Indian NGOs with Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) registration.
- NGOs working directly with communities to develop ideas and improve long-term wellbeing.
- Organizations linking their work with local governance bodies (panchayats and municipalities).
- Groups promoting gender equality and environmental sustainability.
- Vulnerable communities including those with limited access to education and health, Dalits, disabled children, families in extreme poverty, tribal communities, and women.
- Priority geographical focus on central and certain culturally identifiable regions in India including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, and parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.
Application Process:
- Rolling application cycle with assessments biannually in March and October.
- Two application levels:
- Micro-level: Small to medium NGOs with direct community implementation, annual outlay under Rs 1.5 crore (~£150,000 GBP), focused on priority areas. Around 70-80% of funding.
- Meso/Macro-level: Larger scale organizations working on policy advocacy, learning consolidation, and ecosystem improvement. Around 10-15% of funding.
- Applications submitted online anytime via the foundation’s portal.
- Applicants must apply directly, not through consultants or fundraisers.
Key Features:
- Funding amount ranges from ₹10,00,000 to ₹40,00,000.
- Project duration typically 1 to 2 years.
- Emphasis on community leadership, systemic change, and sustainability.
- Excludes non-Indian organizations, political/religious institutions, and those without FCRA registration.
- Support includes capacity building and fostering linkages with local governance.
- Strategic plan for 2023-2033 guides funding priorities and approach.
