Karibu Foundation Grants for Africa Grant

This African-led, participatory grantmaking program was formally launched in 2025 after a successful three-year pilot. It aims to empower African social movements and groups of change agents who challenge systemic injustices on the continent through innovative and constructive approaches.

Objectives:

• Support bold, forward-thinking initiatives that disrupt economic, socio-cultural, political, and ecological injustices.
• Strengthen collective struggles for systemic justice in Africa.
• Shift decision-making power to African activists and civil society members.

Target Beneficiaries:

• African-led social movements, networks, organizations, cooperatives, collectives, and associations.
• Groups focused on root causes of injustice with a systemic, non-violent approach.
• Unregistered groups can apply with a registered fiscal sponsor.

Application Process:

• Applications open June 2, 2025, and closed August 6, 2025.
• Applicants submit a jointly-decided concept note (max 6 pages) or a video (max 10 minutes).
• A simple budget draft is required.
• Applications are submitted through Karibu’s Grant Management System via the “Africa Grant” button.

Key Features:

• African-led core group manages grant decisions.
• Emphasis on systemic, non-violent, and imaginative initiatives.
• Does not fund for-profit ventures, government programs, infrastructure, humanitarian aid, capital investments, or individual scholarships.
• Provides detailed information packets and FAQs to guide applicants.
• Offers an informational webinar for applicants.
