Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects in Maldives

Objectives:

• Improve basic human needs and social well-being at the grassroots level.
• Support projects with significant humanitarian impact requiring timely assistance.

Target Beneficiaries:

• Non-profit organizations including:
  1. Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)
  2. Community-Based Organizations (CBOs)
  3. Medical Institutes (hospitals, health centers)
  4. Educational Institutes (schools)
  5. Local Governments (Atoll and Island Councils)
• Individuals and for-profit organizations are not eligible.

Application Process:

• Applications are accepted year-round.
• Applicants submit a Project Proposal (Application Form) to the Embassy of Japan.
• The Embassy screens applications and informs applicants of the results.
• Relevant documents include the 2024 GGP Guidelines and Application Form available on the Embassy website.

Key Features:

• Grant amount is subject to discussion; no fixed upper limit.
• Projects must be completed within one year from the signing of the Grant Contract.
• The program excludes support for projects related to culture, sports, research, political or religious purposes, military use, taxes, registration fees, and administrative costs such as salaries.
• Emphasis on projects that address urgent humanitarian needs and have a direct impact on local communities.

This program facilitates grassroots development by enabling local organizations to implement projects that directly benefit vulnerable populations in the Maldives with timely and flexible funding from Japan's ODA.
