Investor Matching Program

It is a strategic initiative launched in 2020 to support the growth and scaling of tech startups in Malaysia by connecting them with venture capitalists (VCs) and investors. The programme has facilitated over USD 200 million in capital matching, playing a vital role in Malaysia's digital economy development.

Objectives:

• Facilitate capital matching between startups and investors to fuel growth.
• Support the development of Malaysia's digital economy.
• Provide mentorship and advisory opportunities alongside investment.
• Foster a mutually beneficial relationship between investors and startups.

Target Beneficiaries:

• Tech startups based in Malaysia.
• Tech startups operating in Malaysia with at least one founder based in Malaysia.
• Startups seeking funding and growth acceleration.

Key Features:

• Over 70 investors and VCs participate, covering various funding stages and industries.
• The programme has a 60% success rate in matching startups with investors.
• No fees are required for startups to participate.
• MDEC facilitates introductions and supports follow-up discussions.
• Meetings are structured to 30 minutes (20 minutes presentation, 10 minutes Q&A).
• Confidentiality is maintained; video content of meetings should not be shared publicly.

Application Process:

1. Register interest through the official platform.
2. MDEC conducts a basic screening and matches startups with investors based on funding stage and industry vertical.
3. Investors shortlist companies for further discussion.
4. MDEC facilitates introductions between shortlisted startups and investors.

The programme runs on a cycle with specific application windows; for example, the 2024 cycle opens from 16 September to 15 October. It aims to nurture Malaysia’s tech ecosystem by providing startups with access to capital, mentorship, and strategic investor connections.

This initiative is a key enabler for startups to secure funding and scale their businesses while contributing to the broader digital economy growth in Malaysia.
