Program Overview

Hawkers Go Digital is a Singapore government initiative led by the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) and partners to support hawkers in adopting digital technology and e-payments, ensuring their business sustainability in a post-COVID digital economy.

Objectives:

  • Help hawkers safely operate and thrive in a digitalised environment.
  • Encourage adoption of contactless digital payment methods to reduce physical contact.
  • Develop sustainable commercial models for hawkers through digital platforms.
  • Raise consumer awareness about food delivery and digital payment platforms.

Target Beneficiaries:

  • Stallholders in NEA hawker centres (cooked food and market stalls).
  • HDB coffee shops.
  • JTC industrial canteens.

Key Features:

  • Promotion of SGQR, a unified QR code for digital payments supporting 19 payment schemes including DBS PayLah!, GrabPay, and Singtel Dash.
  • Government covers merchant transaction fees (0.5% discount rate) until 31 December 2025.
  • NETS offers a $3 cash bonus for every 10 NETS transactions to hawkers and food outlets until 31 July 2021.
  • Deployment of Digital Ambassadors to hawker centres to assist stallholders with digital adoption and provide ongoing support.
  • Collaboration with delivery platforms, hawker associations, community partners, and government agencies under the Singapore Together Alliance for Action – Online Ordering for Hawkers.
  • Additional support through the Digital Resilience Bonus, offering up to $10,000 to offset costs for adopting digital solutions in business processes, digital presence, and data-driven operations.

Application Process:

  • Stallholders can sign up by engaging with Digital Ambassadors at hawker centres or SG Digital community hubs.
  • Required documents include NRIC, current NEA or SFA license, and bank statement.
  • For inquiries and sign-up assistance, hawkers can contact NETS Customer Service Hotline or SG Digital Office.

This program aims to future-proof hawker businesses by integrating digital payments and online ordering, enhancing convenience and safety for both hawkers and consumers.
