National Highways Lorry Parking Facilities Improvements Scheme

This funding program is aimed at enhancing facilities for heavy goods vehicle (HGV) drivers in the UK. Key details include:

Objectives:

• Improve welfare facilities for HGV drivers, such as driver lounges, toilets, showers, Wi-Fi, self-service laundry, recharging points, and amenities that consider gender, disability, and other protected characteristics.
• Enhance driver and site security through lighting, CCTV, monitoring equipment, and secure fencing.
• Increase HGV parking capacity and improve layout, including electric charging infrastructure and dedicated areas for noisy vehicles with noise abatement.

Target Beneficiaries:

• Operators of lorry parking facilities including motorway service areas, independent truck stops, trunk road service areas, and local authority truck stops.
• Sites must be located on or within a 5-mile radius of the strategic road network in England.

Funding Details:

• Up to £20 million available.
• National Highways funds up to 50% of the capital cost of improvement projects.
• Applicants must provide at least 50% match funding.
• Funding covers capital costs like construction, refurbishment, security equipment, engineering, design, fixtures, and fittings.
• Does not cover staffing, running costs, business overheads, or retrospective funding.
• Projects must be completed by 31 March 2026.
