The Conservation, Food & Health Foundation

The Conservation, Food & Health Foundation (CFH Foundation) is a UK-based funding program dedicated to protecting the environment, improving food production, and promoting public health primarily in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, and the Middle East.

Objectives:

• Support projects and applied research that generate local or regional solutions to environmental and human life quality issues.
• Advance local leadership and professional development in conservation, agriculture, and health sciences.
• Build capacity of local organizations and coalitions.
• Address under-funded issues and geographic areas.
• Provide seed money to promising projects to help them attract major future funding.

Target Beneficiaries:

• Local, state, and regional organizations in the specified regions.
• NGOs, nonprofits, civil society organizations, community-based organizations, academic institutions.
• Organizations in upper-income countries working with local partners in these regions.
• Government agencies and religious organizations can be partners but not direct recipients.

Key Features:

• Focus areas include Conservation (biodiversity, climate change mitigation, local capacity building), Food (sustainable agriculture, small-scale farmer support, indigenous food sovereignty), and Health (reproductive health, mental health, environmental health, zoonotic diseases).
• Grants support applied research, pilot projects, new initiatives, training, and technical assistance rather than ongoing programs.
• No minimum or maximum grant size; typical grants range from $25,000 to $50,000 per year.
• Grants are awarded for one or two years, with second-year funding contingent on satisfactory progress.
• Two grant cycles annually with clear deadlines for concept applications and proposals.
• Reporting requirements include final and interim progress and financial reports.
• The Foundation does not fund overhead, general operating support, direct humanitarian aid, eco-tourism, capital improvements, or projects for private gain.

Application Process:

• Submit a concept application by the specified deadline (December 22 or June 15).
• If invited, submit a full proposal by the proposal deadline (February 15 or August 15).
• Grants awarded on July 1 and December 1.
• Only one proposal per organization per calendar year is accepted.
