Objectives:

Target Beneficiaries:

  • Only nongovernmental organizations such as civic groups, associations, and independent media.
  • Organizations working in diverse political environments, including nascent democracies, semi-authoritarian, and highly repressive societies.
  • NED does not fund individuals, government bodies, or state-supported institutions.
  • Organizations based in established democracies can apply if their projects focus on eligible countries or regions.

Application Process:

  • Applicants must submit an Organizational Profile Form, Application Proposal Form, Proposal Narrative, Proposal Budget, and Registration Documents (if applicable).
  • Proposals must align with NED’s Statement of Principles and Objectives.
  • Applications are submitted via email to the regional address (for Hong Kong, Asia region: asiaproposals@ned.org) or by post to NED’s Washington, DC office.
  • Deadlines for proposal submission in 2025-2026 are September 26, 2025; January 26, 2026; and June 2, 2026.
  • Decisions are made three times a year by the NED Board of Directors based on program fit, relevance, and applicant experience.
