HKU DeepTech100

HKU DeepTech100 is a one-year co-ideation funding and support program jointly run by HKU Techno-Entrepreneurship Core (TEC) and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP). It is the first program of its kind in Hong Kong focused on translating deep tech research outcomes from HKU into viable future businesses.

Objectives:

• To support the commercialization of deep technology research from HKU.
• To provide comprehensive R&D resources and business startup support.
• To foster innovation and entrepreneurship in deep tech sectors.

Target Beneficiaries:

• Principal applicants must be HKU members (students, staff, or alumni) with at least 20% ownership in the applying or to-be-established company, or existing/prospective HKU IP licensees.
• Applicants can be individuals (aged 18+ with HKID), companies incorporated in Hong Kong for less than 2 years, or teams that will incorporate a company within 2 weeks of approval.
• Projects must be deep tech-based with strong R&D and business planning.

Application Process:

• The program runs twice a year with application cut-off dates on the last Sunday of May and November.
• Selection involves a two-stage process including an interview by a vetting committee.
• Criteria include individual/team competency, business development potential, innovativeness, and R&D quality.

• Structured entrepreneurship training via HKSTP’s Learning Platform, Lean Launcher, and HKU TEC’s Entrepreneurship Academy.

• Fast track to HKSTP incubation programs.
• Community networking and public exposure opportunities.
• AWS Activate Startup Program credits up to US$15,000 for selected teams.
• The program supports deep tech startups from ideation to business development with strong institutional backing.
