Pilot Programme to Enhance Talent Training for the Insurance Sector – Summer Internship Programme

Objectives:

• To provide summer internship opportunities in insurance companies and insurance broker companies for university students.
• To help students gain a better understanding of the insurance sector’s operations.
• To assist students in making informed decisions about their future careers in insurance.
• To enhance talent training and development within the insurance industry.

Target Beneficiaries:

• Residents of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) who are lawfully employable in Hong Kong.
• Undergraduate or postgraduate students enrolled in full-time accredited programs at local education institutions.
• Final-year sub-degree students with conditional offers for full-time locally accredited degree programs.
• Students from any discipline are welcome to apply.
• Non-permanent residents of HKSAR who meet the eligibility criteria can also apply.

Key Features:

• Internship period runs during the summer months (June to August), lasting up to three consecutive months.
• The Government subsidizes up to 80% or HK$8,000 (whichever is lower) of the monthly honorarium paid by participating employers.
• Internships focus on middle- and back-office roles; sales or front-line positions are excluded.
• Participating companies include registered insurance companies, licensed insurance brokerage companies, and professional intermediaries under the Insurance Authority.
• Students can apply for up to three job preferences and accept only one offer.
• The programme encourages practical work experience combined with career exploration.

Application Process:

• Students submit an application form along with a student card copy, academic transcript, CV, and cover letter(s) to the Vocational Training Council (VTC) by the deadline.
• Applications are reviewed and forwarded to participating employers based on job preferences.
• Employers may conduct interviews and select candidates based on academic performance and interview results.
• Successful interns enter into an employment contract for up to three months.
• Employers provide monthly honorarium and mentorship.
• After internship completion, employers submit appraisal reports and payroll records to claim government subsidy.

Important Dates for 2025 Intake:

• Company enrollment: 2 Dec 2024 – 3 Jan 2025
• Intern recruitment: 20 Jan – 11 Apr 2025
• Job matching & interviews: 1 Apr – 30 May 2025
• Internship start: 1 June 2025
